Windy!

Good Afternoon

Grade 1's played a game of dribbling tag, it was a good way for students to show off their dribbling and ball protection skills.

Grade 2's had a 3 on 3 basketball house competition.

grade 4-8 had another crossfit fitness circuit, I was impressed with the effort from MOST of the students.

Good evening!

Hello All

Jk/sk's/grade 1 moved forward today and were passing a ball in a triangle formation. They were able to pass the ball to each other with few errors.

Grade 2/3/4's worked on dribbling around obstacles and protecting the ball.

Grade 5/6's continued to work on passing. I see too many times during a scrimmage that soft passes get broken up.

Grade 7/8's worked on protecting the ball against a defender and we also had a scrimmage. I was impressed with the way the students moved the ball up the floor.

Cold and wet

Good evening

Grade 2-6 worked on offensive basketball moves to get around a defender today. I feel many student athletes panic and don't know what to do when someone comes at them. I kept it simple and made them get around a chair, we talk about why they used certain moves and how the moves will protect ball.

Jk/sk continued to work on their hand eye coordination by dribbling a basketball while jogging.

Please return ski forms asap!

T'was a cold winters day

Good evening!

By all accounts we had a great day in phys Ed today!

Jk/sk we learned how to dribble a basketball, students are reminded not to slap at the ball with their palm.

Grade 1's worked on their dribbling and passing on the run

Grade 2-8 all learned the proper technique to shoot a basketball. After observing them for a couple days I noticed many students were still using two hands to shoot. After discussions of different ways to shoot a ball I demonstrated and taught the proper form.

Grade 5-8 please bring in your ski trip forms.

Thanks!

Onward and upward

Good afternoon!

Jk/sk I introduced dribbling a basketball as well as worked on the chest pass.

Grade 1/2 we continued with our cooperative games, students had to lie on their back and pass a ball to the person behind them without using their arms.

Grade 3's learned how to underhand serve a volleyball.

Grade 5-8's are having a round robin tournament to wrap up volleyball.

Ski trip forms will be going home tomorrow.

Good evening

Jk/sk today learned the proper way to an overhead throw, just like a soccer throw in. I'm noticing all students are getting more comfortable catching a ball. The next step is working on the accuracy of their throws.

Grade 1/2 we attempted working on cooperative games with some success. Today's activity was the human knot! Students were to stand in a circle, they couldn't hold hands with the person next to them or the same person twice, the object was to communicate with each other to untangle the knot!

Grade 3/4 practiced using a skipping rope.

Grade 5-8 scrimmaged in volleyball

Ski trip forms will be going home this week!

Crossfit Day

Good Evening

The grade 3-8's experienced their first of many crossfit workouts today. Crossfit is described as the Sport of fitness, you may have see the commercials on tv. Obviously I kept it fairly simple but heart rates were up for the entire class, I was proud of the work that was put in.

Relay races were the them in SK and JK classes, I divide the class up by house and have races. The students can get very competitive.

Grade 1's and 2's started dribbling a basketball, I will continue to develop their skills as good hand eye coordination can transfer over to many aspects of life.

Have a great night

Practice, Practice, Practice!!

Good Afternoon

Jk/Sk learned the proper technique of the under hand throw today. Thus is an valuable skill to have in life, I will continue to work on their technique as the year goes on.

Grade 1/2 continued the recess game unit, we played another childhood favourite of mine called "wall ball". I hope these games will encourage cooperation on the playground.

Grade 3/4 worked on volleying the ball to a partner today. Grade 5-8 worked on position and keeping their feet moving on the court. I was very impressed with the improvements I saw by the end of today's class. Students need to be reminded that volleyball is not a stationary sport and a lot of movement is needed to be successful.

REMINDER for grade 5-8's to bring in their curling form signed in order to go tomorrow.

thanks!

Theta victory!

Theta beat zeta today in grade 5-8 intramurals!

Standings are
Theta - 4
Kappa - 2
Zeta - 0

Up and a way

Good evening

Jk/sk's continued to work on their hand eye coordination by playing catch with a tennis ball today. This posed a challenge to some of the students because the ball is much smaller that what we've been using.

Grade 1/2's played an old favourite recess game of mine called foot hockey. It's essentially soccer but using a tennis ball, it's easy to play during recess.

Grade 3/4's learned how do the bump in volleyball and the grade 7/8's continued to work on getting game ready.

Reminder the grade 5-8's are going curling Friday.

In the JK/SK classes we got our heart rates up by working on various running drills and we continued to work on our hand eye coordination with some throwing and catching drills.

Grade 1/2 are in a "recess games" unit. I am introducing the students to games they can play with their friends during recess.

Grade 3-8 continued with fitness tests, this should be the last day of testing for a while. I was very impressed with the effort put forward by Miss Elliott's class in the beep test.
