Happy Friday

We had another great week in the Gym

Today we had a handful of house competitions using the scooter boards and beanbags. It's fun to see the competitive side come out in a few of the students.

Grade 7-9's are still running the student lead warm up excerises before our basketball unit.

Our burpee challenge is still in full swing, I reminded the students doing the challenge is a lot like life, you get out what you put into it. If the students properly do the burpees they will see and feel results.

Sunside

Good afternoon,

Fantastic weather once again today, we need a retractable roof on the gym!

I introduced the jk/sk's to the proper overhand throwing technique today. We worked on throwing using our bodies rather than just our arms for more power.

Grade 2-4 continued to play cooperative games, students are reminded the games we play are to improve teamwork and it takes everyone on the team to make things work.

5-9 is transitioning to playing a proper game of basketball, we are starting to work on offensive strategies.

Sept 17th

Good afternoon

On this sunny September day we had a blast sweating and working with others.

Jk/sk's worked on their stationary kicking.

Grade 1's were developing their rhythmic movements with dancing to various types of music. I was impressed, we had pretty much full participation from the full class.

Grade 2 and 3 were challenged playing a game if chain tag.

The basketball unit is progressing nicely with the grade 5-9, we are getting close to playing a proper game and developing some offensive strategies.

Sept 11

Good evening

Another hot September day today, I made sure all students were hydrated throughout the class.

Jk and sk's are coming close to finishing up their level one fitness assessments.

Grade 2-4 played a great cooperative game I call island jumper, they had to move down the gym only walking on the two mats they were provided.

Grade 5-9 continued the basketball unit, we recapped ball handling skills and worked on passing.

Sept 9 = 9 burpees!

Good afternoon

We had a great day today. Jk-1 continued with their initial fitness assessments, we made it through the line run test and started the balance assessment.

Grade 2-4 confined to work on playing cooperatively. This is an age range where I'm really trying to work on their cooperation and team work abilities.

Grade 5-9 started the basketball unit, It was a fairly light class which allowed me to see what areas of the game I will need to focus on going forward.

Reminder the intramurals schedule is on the tv in front of the gym.

Have a great night.

Thursday September 5

Jk-grade 1's had their intro to physical literacy today, we worked on our static balance, sprints, vertical jump and catching.

Grade 2-4 were introduced to cooperative games, we learned why a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Grade 5-9 had the intro to health related fitness. I made a presentation on the five components of fitness, cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and body composition.

Homework, grade 7-9 are to design a 10 minute workout plan that incorporates all five components of fitness.

Have a great night

First day

I was extremely happy to see the enthusiasm of all of the students today, I can tell is going to be a great year!

I went over the rules and expectations with all the classes today. Tomorrow we will jump right into the swing of things.

I asked a few of the classes why they thought PE is important to have at school. I wanted to give "Gym class" some relevance for their lives. Once I ask all the grades I will post their thoughts!
